Board of Governors for the Council of Canadian Academies appoints Janet Bax as Interim President and CEO

The Board of Governors for the Council of Canadian Academies has appointed Janet Bax as Interim President and CEO for the Council, effective October 1st. Janet is stepping into this position after the Council’s former President, Elizabeth Dowdeswell was installed as the 29th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario on September 23rd.

“On behalf of the Board of Governors I would like to express our thanks to Elizabeth Dowdeswell for her vision and leadership as President of the Council,” said Margaret Bloodworth. “We are thrilled for Liz as her new post brings together all of her past professional experience and skills. She will undoubtedly be an extraordinary Lieutenant Governor.”

Janet Bax has been with the Council since 2011 and spent much of her career in the public service.  She is a strong leader with excellent knowledge of the federal government and invaluable insight regarding how science and policy intersect. Janet will serve as Interim President pending the conclusion of a national search for a new CEO in 2015.

Ms. Bloodworth added, “I would like to thank Janet for taking on this important role at a time when the Council is working hard to complete expert assessments on topics as varied as energy prices and business decision-making, the future of Canadian Policing models, and STEM skills for the future.”
