Report Update

Expert Panels at Work

With the recent launch of Improving Innovation Through Better Management on October 18th, the CCA now has five assessments in progress. Our reports on medical assistance in dying, currently in production, will be released in December. Two reports will follow in early 2019: Policing in Indigenous Communities, and the State of Knowledge and Practice of Integrated Approaches to Natural Resource Management in Canada. Read on for more updates.

Medical Assistance in Dying

In July 2018, the Expert Panel on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) held its sixth and final panel meeting to deliberate on the content and findings of the three reports: The State of Knowledge on Medical Assistance in Dying for Mature Minors; The State of Knowledge on Advance Requests for Medical Assistance in Dying; and The State of Knowledge on Medical Assistance in Dying Where Mental Disorder is the Sole Underlying Medical Condition.

Since that time, the Working Groups for each of the three reports have held teleconferences to further deliberate on content, refine the drafts, and provide final sign-off. The reports are now in publication and on track to be delivered to Health Canada and the Department of Justice Canada and then tabled in Parliament in December. At that time, the reports will be made available to the public in English and French on CCA’s website.

Policing in Indigenous Communities

The Expert Panel on Policing in Indigenous Communities held its fifth and final panel meeting September 22 to 23 in Ottawa. During this final meeting, the Panel considered the results from the peer review process, polished the report’s conclusions and findings, deliberated on the report’s title, and tasked CCA staff with implementing any changes arising from the meeting in preparation for publication. The Panel will meet via teleconference in December to sign off on the final draft of the report. The report is expected to be released in early 2019.

The State of Knowledge and Practice of Integrated Approaches to Natural Resource Management in Canada

The Expert Panel on the State of Knowledge and Practice of Integrated Approaches to Natural Resource Management in Canada held its fifth and final panel meeting from October 2 to 3 in Ottawa. During the meeting, the Panel considered the results from the peer review process and refined the report’s conclusions and findings. CCA staff were tasked with implementing any changes arising from the meeting in preparation for publication. The Panel will meet via teleconference to sign off on the final draft of the report. The report is expected to be released in early 2019.

Prioritizing Climate Change Risks

The Expert Panel on Prioritizing Climate Change Risks held its second panel meeting September 10 to 11, in Ottawa. Panel members determined the general approach for assessing and prioritizing climate risks for Canada, and prepared for the workshop, which took place October 22 to 23 in Montréal.

The Potential Socio-economic Impacts of Antimicrobial Resistance in Canada

The Expert Panel on the Potential Socio-economic Impacts of Antimicrobial Resistance in Canada held its third meeting September 6 to 7, in Toronto. Panel members reviewed the preliminary results of the socio-economic model, refined the report outline, and provided guidance on existing report structure and content. The fourth panel meeting will take place in Toronto in early January 2019. The report is on track for a public release in fall 2019.
