Ted Dixon is Vice-President, Science and Technology, and Founder and Director of Huron Technologies International Inc. and Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics at the University of Waterloo.

Dr. Dixon’s research career has focused on the development and commercial application of scanning laser imaging technology. In 1983, Dr. Dixon founded Waterloo Scientific to commercialize a laser-based scanning-stage semiconductor wafer mapping system. In 1994, Dr. Dixon was honoured as one of Ontario’s top entrepreneurs by the Ontario Business Journal, for his success in Waterloo Scientific, which was later purchased by Philips in 1996. Huron Technologies International Inc., which until 2010 was known as Biomedical Photometrics Inc. (BPI), was founded in 1994 to commercialize the MACROscope® technology developed in Dr. Dixon’s laboratory at the University of Waterloo. BPI’s TISSUEscope™ won the 2005 Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation of the Year Award in Confocal Imaging Solutions, and the company was awarded Precarn Inc.’s Anthony T. Eyton Award for International Impact in 2007.

Dr. Dixon was a member of the Advisory Board of the National Research Council Canada’s Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences, and is presently a Director of the Centre for Imaging Technology Commercialization, the Ontario Photonics Industry Network and the Ontario Photonics Technology Industry Cluster. He has been a Director of DALSA Corp., a principal investigator in Photonics Research Ontario, Vice President and Co-Founder of Waterloo Distance Education Inc. and Associate Director of the University of Waterloo Correspondence Program.

Dr. Dixon is the author of 11 U.S. patents and more than 60 publications in refereed journals. He was awarded the CAP/INO Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Applied Photonics in 2006.
