John Lawson is an independent transport economics researcher and consultant, and a Research Fellow of the University of British Columbia Centre for Transportation Studies. Mr. Lawson retired from Transport Canada in 2005, with over 30 years of experience, latterly as Director, Economic Analysis and Research, responsible for analysis of policy issues in all modes of transport, data development, environmental and safety economics.

John Lawson has served as a member of the research staff for the Royal Commission on National Passenger Transportation; led the analytical work of the Transportation Table in Canada’s National Climate Change Strategy development; and was Co-Director of Research for the Canada Transportation Act Review. Mr. Lawson now consults for public and private sectors, in Canada and internationally.
