Dr. Paul Gully is a senior public health physician with over 30 years of experience. After practicing medicine in Africa and the Canadian Arctic, he became convinced that the promotion of health and prevention of disease is fundamental to the health of populations and an integral part of a health system. Dr. Gully was the Senior Medical Advisor, Office of the Deputy Minister, Health Canada until his retirement in January 2013. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Public Health Association.

Dr. Gully served as Deputy Chief Public Health Officer at the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). During his time at PHAC, he was seconded to the World Health Organization in Geneva. Dr. Gully has also served as Medical Officer of Health for Saskatoon and as a Regional Specialist in Community Medicine in the UK, attached to the UK Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre.

Dr. Gully has written several publications on infectious disease epidemiology and has held honorary and adjunct academic positions in the UK and Canada.
