Ralf Bachmayer

Dr. Bachmayer is an Associate Professor, and currently holds a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Ocean Technology, at Memorial University of Newfoundland. His research areas include dynamics, navigation and control of autonomous underwater and surface vehicles, vehicle design and under-ice operations thereof.

Ralf Bachmayer received his electrical engineering degree from the Technische Universität Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, Germany in 1995. In 1995 he also worked as a visiting researcher at the Deep Submergence Laboratory, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts. He received his M.Sc. (1997) and PhD (2000) degrees in mechanical engineering from Johns Hopkins University, Maryland. From 2000 to 2003 he joined the Dynamical Control Systems Laboratory at Princeton University as an associate researcher. In 2003 he joined the National Research Council Canada Institute for Ocean Technology as an associate research officer where he was working until March 2008, when his new appointment at Memorial University came into effect. Since March 2008 he has been establishing the Autonomous Ocean Systems Laboratory (AOSL) at Memorial University.
