Ronald Stewart is a Professor and Head of the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of Manitoba. Prof. Stewart was a senior scientist with Environment Canada and an adjunct professor at York University in Toronto before becoming a professor in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at McGill University.
Prof. Stewart’s research focuses on extreme winter and summer weather, precipitation and regional climate. He has led numerous Canadian and international research activities addressing these issues. Prof. Stewart also served as President of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society and led Canada’s involvement in the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics for several years. He is a member of the international Global Water and Energy Cycle Experiment (GEWEX) Scientific Steering Committee. He has also led global initiatives on regional climate within the World Climate Research Programme, developing new ways to examine hydrometeorological extremes around the world. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a Fellow of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society.
Prof. Stewart obtained his B.Sc. (honours) in physics from the University of Manitoba and his PhD in physics from the University of Toronto.
