Project Director

Dane Berry is a Project Director at the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA). Dane joined the CCA staff in 2010, and has since supported more than 10 CCA assessments.

Prior to joining the CCA, Dane worked as a consultant in Ottawa with both Global Advantage Consulting and the Agricola Group, working with public and private sector clients on issues related to science, technology, and environmental policy. In this capacity, he undertook projects for Innovation, Science, and Economic Development (ISED) Canada; Employment and Social Development Canada; the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy; Environment and Climate Change Canada; the Sustainable Prosperity Institute; the Canadian Cancer Society; and many others. Dane has also worked internationally, helping the National Democratic Institute establish a country-wide election monitoring network in Nepal.

Dane has a Bachelor’s degree (Hon.) in Philosophy from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Simon Fraser University.

With a professional background in science, and technology and innovation policy, Dane has provided research and analysis for many of the CCA’s assessments in this area, including the 2012 assessment of the State of Science and Technology, the 2013 assessment of the State of Industrial R&D, and the 2018 assessment on the State of R&D in Canada. Dane also served as the Project Director for CCA’s assessment on the State of Science Culture in Canada.
