Jean Woo is a Project Director at the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA).
Jean joined the CCA in September 2020. She is responsible for leading assessment projects, working directly with CCA expert panels to review, evaluate, and synthesize knowledge on policy-related subjects.
She has over two decades of research management, research administration, and peer review experience. Prior to joining the CCA, Jean was a Program Officer at the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) where she conducted research on scientific knowledge systems, including work on Indigenous knowledge and science communication. At IDRC, she was responsible for programming and project development in the Innovation, Policy and Science program area. Jean developed science communication and science journalism programs, which provide journalists with training to better communicate complex scientific findings.
More recently, for the last decade, Jean was the national Senior Manager of Research at the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, where she worked with the independent Scientific Review Committee (SRC) Executive and panels in administering scientific and budgetary peer review for all competitive cardio- and cerebrovascular research programs. She was also the inaugural co-chair of the Community of Practice in Peer Review and Programs for health charities and provincial health research funders in Canada, for the last four years.
Jean holds a master’s in international political economy from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University.
