The Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) welcomes the federal government’s announcement of Dr. Mona Nemer as Canada’s new Chief Science Advisor.
“We would like to congratulate Dr. Nemer on her appointment as Canada’s Chief Science Advisor,” said Eric M. Meslin, PhD, FCAHS, President and CEO of the CCA. “Dr. Nemer is an accomplished scientist with a distinguished career in science and research administration. We look forward to working with her as she takes on this important position for Canada.”
As outlined in Tuesday’s announcement, the Chief Science Advisor “will provide impartial scientific advice to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Science. She will also make recommendations to help ensure that government science is fully available and accessible to the public, and that federal scientists remain free to speak about their work. Once a year, she will submit a report about the state of federal government science in Canada to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Science, which will also be made public.”
