Dr. John H. McArthur is Dean Emeritus of Harvard Business School and Chair of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. He is also a Director of the Boards of Directors of Bell Enterprises, Koç Holding, A.S. (Turkey), Development Gateway Foundation, Duke University Health System, e-Rewards, Inc., and the Reuters Founders Share Company, Ltd. He also serves on the steering committee of the Advanced Leadership Program at the Canada School for Public Service in Ottawa.

Dr. McArthur joined the faculty of the Harvard Business School in 1962 and was Dean from 1980 to 1995. He has also served as a Trustee in Bankruptcy of Penn Central Transportation Company, Chair of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and following its affiliation with the Massachusetts General Hospital, he served as the founding Co-Chair of Partners HealthCare System, Inc. He was Senior Advisor to the President of the World Bank Group from 1996 to 2005, a founding board member of the Canada Development Investment Corporation, and a member of the Task Force on the Future of the Canadian Financial Services Sector.

A native of Vancouver, Dr. McArthur earned the Bachelor of Commerce degree in Forestry from the University of British Columbia in 1957. At the Harvard Business School, he completed an MBA in 1959 and earned a doctorate in business administration in 1963. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honourary degrees.
