Joseph Wright served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Pulp and Paper Research Institute of Canada (Paprican) from May 1994 until April 2006.

Prior to his appointment at Paprican, Dr. Wright was Vice-President and Centre Manager for the Xerox Research Centre of Canada and Professor of Chemical Engineering at McMaster University. Dr. Wright has been Chair of the Board of the Canadian Network of Pulp and Paper Researchers, Chair of the Computing and Systems Technology Division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and founding Co-Chair of the Systems and Control Division of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineers. He has also been Chairman of PRECARN and the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Systems as well as Vice-Chair of the Canadian National Advisory Board on Science and Technology.

Dr. Wright holds a PhD in control/chemical engineering from Cambridge University and a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta where he was awarded the Professional Engineers of Alberta Gold Medal in Chemical Engineering.

Dr. Wright was recognized with an Honourary Doctor of Science Degree from McMaster University (2001). He is a Fellow and past President of the Canadian Academy of Engineering as well as a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineers, and the Chemical Institute of Canada.
