Tara McGee

Tara McGee is Associate Dean (Engagement and EDI), in the Faculty of Science and Professor, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, at the University of Alberta. She was formerly a Professor and Associate Chair of Undergraduate Studies, in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, at the University of Alberta. She teaches in the human geography program at the University of Alberta, including an undergraduate Human Dimensions of Environmental Hazards course. She also supervises a team of graduate and undergraduate research students.

Dr. McGee holds a PhD in Resource Management and Environmental Science from the Australian National University, and BES in Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo. Dr. McGee’s research focuses on individual, community, and organizational responses to environmental hazards. She has completed numerous studies on the human dimensions of wildfire, including wildfire risk perceptions, evacuation, mitigation and preparedness, and recovery. Dr. McGee’s research is mainly based in Canada, including with the First Nations Wildfire Evacuation Partnership, and in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, however she is also working with researchers in Australia, New Zealand, and Portugal. She leads the Human Dimensions of Hazards research group at the University of Alberta.
