Professor Cormier’s novel measures, frameworks, and interventions have contributed to the emergence of a new field in health research known as “shared decision making”. Her ground-breaking studies have created new knowledge, tools, and standards for informing patients about difficult treatment decisions and have underpinned new policies and legislation internationally to promote shared decision-making between patients and health professionals. Her leadership has been pivotal in creating an international academic forum for the field. Dr. Cormier co-led a 14-country international consensus process on standards for developing and evaluating patient decision aids (IPDAS).
Professor Cormier is a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and has been international recognized with awards such as the Society for Medical Decision Making’s Career Achievement Award and the John M. Eisenberg Award for Exemplary Leadership in the Practical Application of Medical Decision Making Research.
Professor Cormier received her BScN from the School of Nursing at the University of Ottawa, her MScN from the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto, and her PhD in Medical Science from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
