Barbara Sherwood Lollar is Professor and Director of the Stable Isotope Laboratory in the Department of Geology at the University of Toronto and Canada Research Chair in Earth and Environment.

Dr. Sherwood Lollar holds a BA Honours in Geological Sciences from Harvard University and a PhD in Earth Sciences from the University of Waterloo.

Dr. Sherwood Lollar has served on a number of Boards including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Governing Council of the University of Toronto, and the Board of Directors for the Center for Environmental Science and Technology at Notre Dame University.

Dr. Sherwood Lollar currently serves on advisory committees for the Canadian Space Agency, the Canadian Mining Industry Research Organization (CAMIRO), the U.S. National Academy of Sciences Space Studies COEL Committee, and the Board of Trustees for the Ontario Science Centre.

She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, a recipient of the Canada Council Killam Research Fellowship, and the 2007 Royal Society Lecturer (Science Council of Japan WISET). In 2000 Dr. Sherwood Lollar was profiled as one of TIME Magazine’s “Leaders for the 21st Century” based on her research on innovative techniques for tracking organic contaminants in groundwater.
