Christian Giguère

Christian Giguère joined the University of Ottawa in 1995 where he is currently Full Professor in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, and holds a cross-appointment with the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He teaches a general course on acoustics for speech and hearing sciences and specialized courses in speech sciences and instrumentation in audiology.

Prof. Giguère’s research covers the perception and localization of speech and warning sounds in the noisy workplace, the functional assessment of individuals with hearing loss, hearing protection, and hearing aids. He has published over 100 journal articles, conference proceedings, and book chapters. Prof. Giguère is a member of the Canadian Standards Association’s S304 technical committee on Occupational Hearing Conservation and the American National Standards Institute’s working group S12/WG11 on Hearing Protector Attenuation and Performance. He is past president of the Canadian Acoustical Association, co-chair of the International Commission on the Biological Effects of Noise, and member of the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics in 1983 from Laval University and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1986 from the University of Toronto. He received a PhD in Information Engineering in 1994 from the University of Cambridge for research on computational modelling of the human auditory periphery.
