Jennifer D. Roberts

Jennifer D. Roberts is trained in environmental health sciences and has extensive experience working in the fields of public health, environmental epidemiology, and human health risk assessment. Her current research portfolio occupies two overlapping themes. The first theme encompasses the areas of risk assessment and environmental epidemiology (e.g., examining the human health risks of low-frequency sound exposure generated by wind turbines). The second pertains to the impact and influences on public health of human-made or built environments, such as the associations between neighbourhoods and physical (e.g., obesity) and mental (e.g., depression) health outcomes.

Formerly, Dr. Roberts was a Senior Scientist with Exponent’s® Health Sciences Center for Exposure Assessment and Dose Reconstruction (2007-2011) and a Senior Health Scientist with ChemRisk® (2005-2007). As a consultant, she was involved with researching and reconstructing exposures, as well as the quantification of dose among occupational and non-occupational communities, in order to assess the risk of chemical, microbial, and physical exposures.

Dr. Roberts received her Bachelor’s degree at Brown University, her Master’s degree from Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, and her PhD from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she was awarded a National Research Service Award (NRSA) from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Academies, Board on Environmental Studies and Toxicology in Washington, D.C. Most recently, Dr. Roberts was the recipient of The Daily Record’s “Very Important Professionals Successful By 40″ Award and has been invited to attend New Connections research events sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
