Lindsay E. Nicolle, MD, FCAHS

Dr. Lindsay E. Nicolle is Professor Emeritus in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, and a consultant in Adult Infectious Diseases in the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and for the Province of Manitoba. She was previously Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Manitoba and had many years in leadership positions in healthcare infection control. Her research interests have included urinary tract infections, infections in long-term care facilities, antimicrobial resistance, and healthcare-acquired infections, and she has published extensively in all these areas. She has participated in the development of many professional practice guidelines related to healthcare-acquired infections and infectious diseases.

Dr. Nicolle is a Fellow of the Society of Hospital Epidemiologists of America, of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. She is a Past-President of the Canadian Infectious Diseases Society (now AMMI/Canada) and has contributed at the executive level to many other professional organizations. She was one of the founders of the Canadian Hospital Epidemiology Committee and Co-Chair from 1993 to 1997. She chaired the Drug Directorate Expert Advisory Committee on Blood Regulation from 2004 to 2014.

Dr. Nicolle was also the Founding Editor and Editor-in-chief of the Canadian Journal of lnfectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology for 20 years and chaired the Steering Committee for Infection Control Guidelines of the Laboratory Centre for Disease Control from 1985 to 2005. She recently stepped down as Chair of the Canadian Drug Expert Committee of the Common Drug Review. Dr. Nicolle’s contributions have been recognized through various awards, including the Canadian Infectious Diseases Society Lecturer, Canadian Infectious Diseases Society Distinguished Service Award, AMMI Canada Lifetime Achievement Award, Scholastic Award of the Manitoba Medical Association, the SHEA Lectureship, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Canadian Medical Association.
