Martha Crago has most recently been McGill University’s Vice-President (Research and Innovation), and Chair of the Governing Council of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). ‎Professor Crago was the Vice Chair and then Chair of the Research Committee of the U15 Group of Canadian Research Universities as well as the Chair of the Comité de recherche du Bureau de Cooperation Interuniversitaire. She was also a member of the Research Partnership Committee of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and of the Senior Research Officers of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU).

Over a 40-year period, Professor Crago has served as a member of countless boards of university science projects and international, national, and provincial committees, and had a very productive career as a researcher and professor. In 2016, the Minister of Science of Canada selected her to be a member of Canada’s Fundamental Science Review. She was named a Chevalier dans l’ordre des palmes académiques by the French government. In 2017, she was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada. In 2020, she received the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa, from the University of British Columbia, in recognition of her work in advancing university research and learning in Canada and beyond. On March 22, 2022, Professor Crago was presented with the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesverdienstorden).
