Meng-Dawn Cheng is currently a Distinguished R&D Staff Member and Group Leader of the Aerosol Sciences Group in the Environmental Sciences Division (ESD) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the largest energy and environmental research laboratory of the United States Department of Energy (DOE).
Dr. Cheng is also the lead scientist of a major ORNL nanotoxicology research program investigating biological and environmental effects of engineered nanoscale materials. He directs research and development projects on advanced sensor technologies for exposure biology and biomedical research. In another capacity, Dr. Cheng heads a team of experts from the DOE, Department of Defense, Environmental Protection Agency research laboratories, universities, and industry in studying emissions, transformation, and transport of gases and particulate matter from military aircraft engines and munitions destructions.
Dr. Cheng holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from the National Cheng Kung University, a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, and a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Cheng also completed postdoctoral work at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
Dr. Cheng has published extensively in the areas of aerosol instrumentation, sensors, nanotoxicology, exposure measurement and assessment, air quality modelling and transport, statistical analysis, and particle engineering analysis and control.
