Michael Riedel

Michael Riedel is Associate Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences (EPS) at McGill University.

In this capacity he has taught a number of courses including, Elementary Earth Physics; Geophysical Applications; Seismic Data Processing and; Borehole Geophysics.

Dr. Riedel received his Vordiplom in Geophysics from the Technical University in Clausthal-Zellerfeld (1995), his Master of Science in Geophysics from the University of Kiel, Germany (1998) and his PhD in Geophysics from the University of Victoria (2001). His interest in gas hydrates, more specifically, the study of marine and terrestrial occurrences, has led to his recent participation in the India NGHP Expedition 01 (summer 2006) as well as the IODP Expedition 311 (fall 2005). Other research interests include: 2D/3D seismic data acquisition; processing and interpretation techniques; time-lapse (4D) seismic processing and interpretation; and the study of physical properties of sediments and their relation to seismic data attributes.

Dr. Riedel’s current research focuses on applied geophysics and marine geology, seismic data acquisition, processing and interpretation, well-log analyses, ocean drilling, and physical properties of sediments.
