Murray Humphries

Dr. Murray Humphries is an Associate Professor of Wildlife Biology and an NSERC Northern Research Chair at McGill University. He is also a member of the Centre for Indigenous Peoples’ Nutrition and Environment (CINE)

Dr. Humphries obtained his B.Sc. from the University of Manitoba in 1993, M.Sc. from the University of Alberta in 1996, and PhD from McGill University in 2001. He held an NSERC postdoctoral fellowship at University of Aberdeen in Scotland, and began as an assistant professor at McGill University in 2003.

He is a wildlife biologist interested in the bioenergetic determinants of the distribution and abundance of northern mammals. His graduate and postdoctoral research focused on small mammals in Yukon’s boreal forests and Quebec’s eastern hardwood forests. Since then, his research focus has expanded latitudinally to the Arctic and allometrically to larger mammal species of more direct relevance to northern communities. Dr. Humphries is particularly interested in the impacts of environmental change on traditional food species of northern communities.
