Ojistoh Horn

Dr. Ojistoh Horn is a Mohawk for Haudenosaunee woman from the community of Kahnawake. She comes from a traditional minded family and has raised six children. She earned her bachelor’s (B.Sc.) in Anatomy and Cell Biology as well as her Master’s (M.Sc.) in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at McGill University. Following this, she worked as a researcher for the Kahnawake Schools Diabetes Prevention Project. She interrupted this work to go to medical school at the University of British Columbia, then completed McGill’s Family Medicine residency program with a fellowship in Maternal and Child Health. She previously worked in and around Kahnawake practicing regular family medicine, geriatric long-term care, hospitalist medicine, and low risk obstetrics. Presently, Dr. Horn works in Akwesasne providing care to community members and families through all phases of the lifecycle. She also provides community-based teaching to medical students and family medicine residents from the medical schools of McGill, Queens, and the University of Ottawa.

She is an active member of the Indigenous Health Committee of the Canadian College of Family Physicians. Always aware of the political and economic factors impacting primary care in indigenous communities, and drawing on the cultural understandings of her people, she aims to incorporate these perspectives in all her works providing full spectrum care.

Dr. Horn has currently teamed up with a number of health-care providers working to connect First Nations, Métis and Inuit with information and Indigenous-led discussions about primary care and the COVID-19 vaccines being rolled out across the country.
