Dr. Peter C. Coyte is a Professor of Health Economics at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Prior to joining the University in 1987, he was a member of the Economics Department at the University of Alberta and, before that, at Simon Fraser University. Dr. Coyte is a national and international expert in health economics, health services evaluation, and health policy and planning.

In 2002, he was elected President of the Canadian Health Economic Research Association and he was instrumental in championing the evolution of that organization to form the Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research (CAHSPR), a multi-disciplinary association dedicated to improving the quality, relevance, and application of health services and policy research for both researchers and users of research. He was elected as the inaugural President of CAHSPR in 2003. Dr. Coyte was awarded a CHSRF/CIHR (Canadian Health Services Research Foundation/Canadian Institutes of Health Research) Health Services Chair in 2000 for 10 years and he has been the Director of CIHR’s Strategic Research and Training Program in Health Care, Technology, and Place since 2002. These awards emphasize research and training and have attracted significant multi-year financial commitments. In these roles, he cultivates mentoring networks for junior researchers and senior faculty, and fosters knowledge translation relationships with government, industry, and healthcare stakeholders.

In recognition of these contributions to health services and policy research, Dr. Coyte was awarded the Health Services Research Advancement Award in 2010 from the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation.
