Rima Rozen, FRSC, FCAHS

Rima Rozen is Associate Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations) and the James McGill Professor in Human Genetics and Pediatrics, at McGill University.

Dr. Rozen established the Molecular Genetics Diagnosis Service at the Montreal Children’s Hospital in 1985, the first accredited molecular genetics service laboratory in Quebec. She directed this service for 17 years. From 1999 to 2007, Dr. Rozen served as Scientific Director of the Montréal Children’s Hospital and Deputy Scientific Director of the McGill University Health Centre, until her appointment as Associate Vice-Principal in 2007. From 1999 to 2009, Dr. Rozen served as the Director of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) Medical Genetics Group at McGill, the longest-running group in the history of the MRC/CIHR (established in 1972).

Her research interests focus on the genetics of metabolic disorders and complex traits, and on genetic-nutritional interactions in disease. She has published over 200 papers, holds 8 patents, and has supervised more than 60 graduate and undergraduate trainees. Dr. Rozen has received several awards for her research, including the Prix Léo-Pariseau from the Association francophone pour le savoir (ACFAS), FRSQ Chercheur-boursier, the CIHR Senior Scientist Award and the Woman of Distinction Award in Health and Science from the Women’s Y Foundation. Dr. Rozen is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists, the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and the Royal Society of Canada.

Dr. Rozen received her PhD from McGill University and pursued postdoctoral training at McGill University and Yale University.
