Dr. Robert Powell is an ecologist currently working with the conservation organization WWF-Canada. Previously, Dr. Powell was a science advisor, director and acting board member with the Alberta Natural Resources Conservation Board and the Energy Resources Conservation Board, reviewing the impacts of major natural resource developments.
Dr. Powell holds a Bachelor of Science in Zoology, a Master of Science in Biology and a Doctorate in Ecology. For many years, Dr. Powell directed WWF-Canada’s work in the Mackenzie River Basin and western Arctic, including efforts to secure a network to conserve representative biodiversity through the Northwest Territories Protected Areas Strategy, interventions in the Mackenzie Gas Pipeline and National Energy Board Arctic Offshore Safety reviews, and a collaborative effort to design the least damaging rules possible to govern the oil sands industry’s extraction of water from the Athabasca River.
