Timothy Meyer is Head of Strategic Planning and Communications at TRIUMF, Canada’s national laboratory for particle and nuclear physics in Vancouver, British Columbia.
At TRIUMF, Dr. Meyer focuses on public relations including media, government, community, and internal relations, and oversees the scientific publication and education and outreach programs. He has overseen the preparation and successful approval of the laboratory’s five-year, 2010-2015 plan and has played a role in Canada’s national discussions about producing medical isotopes using accelerators.
Dr. Meyer came to TRIUMF in 2007 from the U.S. National Academies in Washington, D.C. At the National Academies, he served as an expert in science and public policy as a Senior Program Officer on the Board on Physics and Astronomy. In 2010, he also chaired a strategic communications review of the U.S. Department of Energy’s premier plasma and fusion science laboratory managed by Princeton University.
Dr. Meyer is a member of the Canadian Association of Physicists, the Canadian Science Writers’ Association, the American Physical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Dr. Meyer has been recognized for excellence in public policy analysis and communication strategies and received Business in Vancouver’s “Top 40 Under 40” award in 2011.
Dr. Meyer has a PhD in experimental particle physics from Stanford University.
