Vicki L. Dellarco

Dr. Vicki Dellarco is currently the Science Advisor to the Office of Pesticide Programs at the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA).

Dr. Dellarco has served as a senior science advisor in other U.S. EPA programs including the National Center for Environmental Assessment and the Office of Water. She has considerable experience in developing methodology for and evaluating health-related data on environmental chemicals, including pesticides, and has led the development of several major science policies and risk assessments involving the implementation of the 1996 Safe Drinking Water and Food Quality Protection Acts.

Dr. Dellarco serves on national and international expert advisory committees at the International Life Sciences Institute, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the World Health Organization (WHO). She is a member of the Joint Meeting of Pesticide Residues, the Chair of the U.S. EPA Risk Assessment Forum’s Human Health Oversight Committee, Co-Chair of the Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee 21st Century Toxicology/New Integrated Testing Strategies Workgroup, and the Co-Chair of the U.S. EPA’s Office of Pesticide Program’s Science Policy Council.

In 2008, Dr. Dellarco received the Arnold J. Lehman award from the Society of Toxicology for her contribution to risk assessment and the regulation of chemical agents. In 2009, Dr. Dellarco was recognized by the U.S. EPA with an individual Gold Medal for her scientific leadership in advancing mode of action analysis as a standard for risk assessments.

Dr. Dellarco has numerous publications and years of experience in assessing the human relevance of animal modes of action, conducting cumulative risk assessment, developing toxicity testing strategies for improving and refining health risk assessment, and increasing the efficiency in assessment through problem formulation and early peer and stakeholder engagement. She is frequently invited to speak about these topics at national and international meetings.

Dr. Dellarco received her PhD in genetics from Iowa State University in 1980 and then joined the U.S. EPA.
