Yvonne A. Lefebvre, FCAHS

Over the past 30 years, Yvonne Lefebvre has conducted research and held appointments at the University of Calgary, the University of Ottawa, the Ottawa Hospital, at Providence Health Care, and the University of British Columbia. She is currently the Vice President, Research and Academic Affairs at Providence Health Care and the President of the Providence Health Care Research Institute. Dr. Lefebvre is also a clinical professor and Associate Dean (Research), Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. In 2007, Dr. Lefebvre was appointed Co-Chair of the Research Sub-Committee of the Association of Canadian Academic Healthcare Organizations.

Dr. Lefebvre’s research focus is steroid hormone action in breast and prostate cancer, as well as in lymphoma and leukemia. She has had a long-standing interest in gender and equity issues in health research and education, and has published in this area as well. From 1993 to 1997, Dr. Lefebvre was the first Assistant Dean for Gender and Equity Issues in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

Dr. Lefebvre has served on numerous national and international committees, is a past President of the Canadian Society of Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and a past member of the Institute of Gender and Health Advisory Board at the Canadian Institutes for Health Research. In June 1997, Dr. Lefebvre received the Ottawa YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Research and Development, and in September 1999, the J. David Grimes Award for Scientific Achievement from the Loeb Health Research Institute. In 2003, she was elected to membership in the Canadian Institute of Academic Medicine, and became a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2005.
