We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Wendy Robbins. Dr. Robbins was a professor at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Fredericton and co-founder and coordinator of the Women’s Studies Program. She was a member of the CCA’s Expert Panel on Women in University Research and a huge champion of the subsequent report, released in 2012, Strengthening Canada’s Research Capacity: The Gender Dimension.
In 2007, Dr. Robbins was awarded a Governor General’s Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case which recognizes outstanding contributions in the advancement of equality for women in Canada. She co-founded one of Canada’s — and the world’s — oldest online feminist forums, PAR-L (policy, action, research). She served as Vice-President of women’s and equity issues for the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences and Chair of the Women’s Committee of the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT).
Her passing is a tremendous loss to many. Our deepest sympathies go out to her family.
