Council of Canadian Academies Releases its 2015/16 Annual Report

(Ottawa – July 28, 2016) Today, the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) released its 2015/16 Annual Report, Convening Experts. Assessing Evidence. Informing Decisions.The report highlights the CCA’s achievements over the 2015/16 fiscal year and showcases the findings of its most recent expert panel reports.

Highpoints from the year included the announcement of new funding from the federal government in April 2015 ($15 million over five years), the release of five expert panel reports, and the arrival of new President and CEO Eric M. Meslin, PhD, FCAHS in February 2016.

“I have followed the CCA since its inception and I was always impressed with the diversity and rigour of its work,” said Eric M. Meslin, President and CEO of the Council of Canadian Academies. “The CCA has become well known for its ability to convene the best experts to evaluate the existing evidence on key policy issues in Canada. Together with the CCA’s three Member Academies – the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and the Royal Society of Canada – I intend to build upon this history and ensure the CCA continues to contribute to the vibrant science policy ecosystem in Canada.”

The CCA has produced more than 35 reports on topics as diverse as ocean science, food security, policing, and medicines for children. Work continues on several projects at the CCA, including a third installment of the S&T and industrial R&D report series.
