The Council of Canadian Academies is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter MacKinnon, O.C. and Ted Morton to its Board of Governors. Mr. Morton is an Executive Fellow at The School of Public Policy and Professor of Political Science at the University of Calgary, while Mr. MacKinnon is a former President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Saskatchewan.
The Council’s 12-member Board of Governors is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organization, ensuring fulfillment of the Council’s mandate and oversight of its operations. The Board also features a unique structure. The Council’s three Member Academies each appoint two Fellows from their respective Academy to sit as governors. These six governors then nominate two additional governors from the general public. The remaining four individuals, of which Mr. MacKinnon and Mr. Morton are two, are recommended by the federal Minister of Industry and are formally appointed by the Board. Mr. MacKinnon and Mr. Morton will serve for three years as of June 18th, 2013.
“We are pleased to welcome both Mr. MacKinnon and Mr. Morton to the Board of Governors,” said Elizabeth Parr-Johnston, C.M., outgoing Chair of the Council’s Board of Governors. “Their backgrounds in provincial government, university education, and Canadian public policy will be an asset to our Board as we continue to ensure that evidence-based knowledge is available to policy-makers, researchers, and the public.”
