Tijs Creutzberg Appointed as President and CEO of the Council of Canadian Academies

The Board of Directors of the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tijs Creutzberg as the new president and CEO, effective immediately.

After a broad executive search and competitive selection process, Dr. Creutzberg was chosen for his proven leadership, wide-ranging experience, and deep knowledge of the Canadian science policy landscape, and vision for the future of the CCA.

“We are excited by Tijs’ plan for the future, especially with the upcoming launch of our new strategic plan. Tijs’ extensive experience with the organization puts him in a unique position to lead the CCA at this time. We look forward to supporting his vision and building a CCA that can better serve Canada and the international community,” said Dr. Sue Molloy, Chair of the CCA Board of Directors.

Dr. Creutzberg has been with the CCA for over a decade, including seven years as director of assessments, where he oversaw more than 30 expert panel assessments. He has been working at the interface of policy, science, and technology for over 25 years, having specialized in public policy, public administration, and strategy in the areas of S&T, innovation, and economic development. He had been serving as interim president and CEO since January 1, 2024, when Dr. Eric Meslin stepped down after a successful eight-year tenure.

“I am deeply honoured to lead the CCA as we prepare to launch our ambitious new strategic plan this September. Over the next five years, we will continue to deliver trusted evidence with a focus on building relationships while evolving the organization to ensure our assessments reach and support a broader spectrum of decision-makers,” said Dr. Creutzberg.

Under his leadership, the CCA is poised to embark on a five-year period of renewed and stable funding through the Strategic Science Fund, with a focus on priorities that include broadening the impact and relevance of CCA assessments to support the unique and changing needs of decision-makers in their work.
